A Look At Black History Through The Eyes Of A Photographer

Eunique J Gibson
February is a big month a lot of things are happening and for the African American population it’s a month of celebrating those who are paving the way or have pave the way but should it be just one month or should we be celebrating Black History every day of the year.  Morning Talk Show Host Tom Joyner does a segment on his show call Black History 365 Days A Year with Jeff Johnson for Black America Web where he gives a tidbit on something major that happened in Black History on that day in history however this year Mrs. Eunique J Gibson took Black History to a completely new level with her photography.

Eunique J. Gibson is the proud owner of Eunique Gibson Photography in Maryland and this year to celebrate Black History she showed photos of young children dressed up as various historical figures in the black community with a quote from these individuals the project was entitled “BecauseOf Them, We Can”. The project became such a hit with the likes of KerryWashington, Russell Simmons, Common and Tom Joyner all giving her shouts out as well as various news moguls giving her air time that Mrs. Gibson decided to extended the project to early 2014 as well as release the projects for purchase on her site.

The project caught my attention when a friend of mine forward me a photo of a group of children portraying the Divine 9 team with the saying “Brotherhood. Sisterhood. Scholarship. Service. Between the Divine 8 and  the very last photo which is President & First Lady Obama I'd have to say these two were my absolute favorite of the first 28 but they are all absolutely adorable. If you love these photos as much as I do or any of the 28 that are posted at this time feel free to grab one or all of them and preorder the calendar as well believe me the whole project is about to blow up and you do not want to miss it so stay close for more information.

Don't Let Your Setback Hold You Down...

So I am quite sure everyone was like oh she started another blog and fell off the wagon of updating but I promise you I really did not Jonathan has had me super busy lately.

However today while at church and listen to my pastor who was brings word from Micah 7:8, which read Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me (KJV).  His subject was Your Setback Is Just A Setup For Your Come Back now at that point I felt something powerful hit me for you see while I’m still going through as Micah 7:8 says The LORD shall be a light unto me.   I had just gone through one of those seasons and not many knew about it as I had wanted it and truly, it was hard.  I could not think what I had done so wrong to be in that situation however to hear someone minister on it and actually preach on it I look at that time of darkness differently.  While in the mist of it I wasn’t sure of anything there were days I stressed losing my job for not being focused, days I stressed my electricity being shut off for nonpayment and there was nothing more I could do except just simply pray and praising.

While I am not out of the mist of my storm, God has shown me things that I never thought possible from making a way for me to get furniture, to getting a car that is paid for to simply making things happen that I didn’t think would happen.   So best, believe I am sowing seeds and speaking over them.

Remember your time isn’t up until God says it is so even in the bottom of the 4th with your team down 7 you still got a chance to make a COMEBACK don’t you dare GIVEUP.

The best part of this is you truly learn who your friends are and those who were there just to gossip and talk your business. For who can be against you when God is, for you remember when you are on the way back up to leave those friends behind and simply take your lifetime friends with you.

"There's nothing as exciting as a comeback - seeing someone with dreams, watching them fail, and then getting a second chance." - Rachel Griffiths, Australian Actress

Those Who You Surround Yourself With

It's always said that those people in your life has a purpose for being there or simply they have a reason, season, or a lifetime but you have to be fully aware of your surroundings to know their place...  Read this statement and think of all of those people who have come into your life and think about where they fit.

People come into your life for a Reason, a Season or a Lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to end the relationship. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season!

LIFETIME relationships teach you a lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

We all have reasons, seasons or lifetimes in our life right now.
The Key is making these Reasons a Lifetime!
